A transition is a stretch where the old story does not fit and the new one is not load-bearing yet. Career, city, relationship, health, a name, a role you did not apply for. The panic is often "I have to know who I am by Monday." You do not.

This is not a personality test. It is a way to move while the story is unfinished. It takes consistency and a lot of trial and error. Anyone selling a finished identity by Friday is selling a costume.

## Values are verbs

"Authenticity" is a fog. Values show up as verbs you are willing to repeat: tell the truth in this conversation, keep the body in motion, make one thing, stay in contact with one person, leave a room that requires you to disappear.

Write five verbs. Circle two you can practice this week in a small way. If a verb only works as a speech, it is not a value yet.

## Run experiments, not rebrands

A life transition tempts a full aesthetic reset. Experiments are cheaper: a month of a class, a conversation with someone who already does the work, a week living as if the decision went one way, then the other, on paper.

Possible selves research is blunt about this — we try on futures. We do not owe the first draft a lease.

## Grieve the hallway

The in-between is a real place. People skip it by performing certainty. A short grief practice: name what ended, name what is not here yet, do one ordinary thing that belongs to the current Tuesday. That last step keeps you in a life instead of a concept.

## What this is not

It is not therapy and it is not a diagnosis of an identity disorder. If the transition includes despair you cannot move, or thoughts of not wanting to be here, get human help. The rest of us can treat identity as a practice: verbs, experiments, and a hallway that is allowed to take time.

## Try this today

1. Write five value-verbs. Circle two.
2. Design one week-long experiment that serves those two — small enough to finish.
3. Name one thing that ended and one thing that has not arrived.
4. Do one ordinary Tuesday task after that. The hallway includes dishes.
